![]() I've come across a somewhat similar topic on dev.apple (can't remember the link), but it was quite different. I've tested the exactly same thing (Trackpad in System Preferences) on a Macbook Pro (intel i7, I think also 2020 the last before m1) with Big Sur and it works exactly as expected. I'm using a Macbook Pro m1 (2020) on Mac OS Monterey, but this behaviour manifested itself in Big Sur too, so I would rule out that upgrading is the issue. If I press all the way down (not using force touch), it works correctly. When I check/uncheck an option such as 'Look up & data detectors', some taps are ignored. I haven't seen any issues when pressing ("normally") on the Trackpad, but I also haven't used it often enough.Ī clear context where it consistently works badly is System Preferences - Trackpad. In other contexts it is rather random, but often enough that it's becoming really hard to use my Trackpad properly. ![]() In Firefox, for example, there are moments where I need to press exactly 3 times for a new tab to open. I have to press a second or a third time for it to work. The problem is that on regular intervals the tap is simply ignored. I'm not sure if this has been happening since Big Sur, it's been a frustrating experience and it took me a while to realise there was something wrong with the Trackpad, and not with any particular application (initially I thought it was related to Firefox only). Unfortunately it doesn't work consistently at all. Tap on trackpad works inconsistently (m1) I am having this frustrating issue with the trackpad. I don't have the technical vocabulary used in accessibility (whether Apple's or the community) to decide what it is I need. This will be a great start to reducing my frustrations. What will work to ensure when I click on something it responds without my hand being placed exactly where the trackpad expects. What will work to reduce my need to move horizontally across the screen without error? ![]() What will work to reduce accidental selections? The only option I have found to make a difference is the click speed. I feel like I am fighting with a random hand. I can't seem to understand the options and which will be helpful. (Sometimes I realize my hand is not placed on the left side of the trackpad.) When i have to chose an item one or two levels down, I have to move my hand horizontally being certain not moving a millimeter too high or low or I have to begin again. Other times I click on a choice multiple times and it doesn't work. Either something gets selected that I don't want or I can't select what I want.Īt times, it appears that the sensitivity is set so high that moving the cursor across menus one will be selected. Selecting the right thing with the trackpad has become increasingly more difficult.
